Image rights, amendment or take-down

How to request a change or removal of an image on a design-history page.

We take image rights seriously. If you hold rights to an image on one of our design-history pages and want it credited differently, amended, or removed, this page tells you what to send us and how long we take to respond.

What this page is for

The Graphic Design School uses imagery on its design-history pages under the Australian Statutory Education Licence (Copyright Agency Part VB), open-access museum collections, publisher permission, estate-granted access, or Creative Commons. Every image is credited, and the licence for each is listed at /colophon/.

If you are a rights-holder, licensee, or acting as an agent for one, this page explains how to ask us to amend the credit, swap the image, or remove it.

How to contact us

Email complaints@thegraphicdesignschool.com with the subject line Image rights — design-history take-down. Include the following so we can act quickly:

  1. The page URL — for example https://www.thegraphicdesignschool.com/design-history/paul-rand/.
  2. The image — a thumbnail, a description, or the caption text as it appears on the page.
  3. Your role — rights-holder, licensee, estate, agent, or other (please specify).
  4. The basis for your request — amendment to the credit, licence correction, or removal. If you are asking for removal, please include whatever evidence of rights or licence status you can share.

If you prefer to write by post, we accept formal notices at the postal address published on the Contact Us page.

Response time

We respond within 5 business days to every take-down or amendment request. Typical outcomes:

  • Credit amendment — we update the credit on the page within the same business week. The page JSON is rebuilt and redeployed automatically.
  • Licence correction — same timeline. We hold the relationship between image and licence in source-of-truth content files.
  • Removal — we action within 5 business days. Cached copies (search engines, Wayback Machine) may persist for some time outside our control. We will not contest your rights while cache purges complete.

If the request is contested or requires legal review, we will respond within 5 business days to acknowledge and set a realistic timeline for resolution.

About the AU Statutory Education Licence

The Australian Statutory Education Licence (Copyright Agency Part VB of the Copyright Act 1968) lets registered educational institutions reproduce copyright material for educational purposes and pay an equitable remuneration through the Copyright Agency.

As a CRICOS-registered and ASQA-accredited training organisation, The Graphic Design School operates under this licence for educational imagery used on our design-history pages. This does not remove your rights as a rights-holder — you retain the right to request amendment or removal, and we process those requests as described above.

For more information about the licence itself, see the Copyright Agency directly, or contact us at complaints@thegraphicdesignschool.com.
